As I am preparing for the arrival of baby 2, I am in full nesting mode. When I say full nesting mode, I mean touching up paint level of nesting. It is wild to be completely exhausted while chasing a toddler daily at 32 weeks pregnant, but at the same time, have an overwhelming need to prep the house for the arrival of a little tiny human, who will just further destroy the house. One thing that I am grateful to have had when Josie was a newborn was a diaper caddy. So, you better believe that I am going to be prepping one for Josie and the new baby. 2 under 2 here we come… When Josie was in her first weeks of life, having a changing station on both floors of our house was insanely helpful. The caddy on the main floor of our house was mobile and could travel with the baby. I also brought the caddy into our bedroom at night to make the night feedings and changings more smooth. I quickly learned what I liked having in the caddy and what was unnecessary. These are some of the items that will be making an appearance in my diaper caddy:
Caddy: This can be a basket you already have laying around the house or a rolling cart. Whatever works for you and your home. I love this one from amazon. These compartments make for quick access and handles make it portable.
Diapers: I will be stocking both diapers for baby number 2 and Josie. I plan on utilizing the compartments in the caddy to keep the diapers separate, but I am sure with the chaos there will still be mishaps. We have tried a few brands of diapers and are Huggies people!
Wipes: Wipes, wipes, and more wipes.
Lotion: I like having lotion on hand for any dry spots or bumpy areas on the little ones. This might not be a necessity, but I like having it just in case.
A and D Diaper Rash Cream: I did not do much research on diaper creams and just registered for a random cream when I was pregnant with Josie. I was given A and D cream, and I have not looked back. It has been wonderful to use with all the baby diaper rashes.
BumCo Butt Spatula: Okay. I know what you are thinking. This is ridiculous, but it is SO worth the 7 dollars. I have used one since Josie was born and ordered more to go in the diaper bag and her nursery because I love it so much. Just imagine you have a squirmy little baby who is screaming and you need to put a cream on their tush. Now you have cream all over your hands and are trying to put the diaper on the squirmy baby then next clothing. Using the spatula eliminates the issue of getting ointment or cream on your hands.
Clothes: Newborns eat, sleep, and poop. Sometimes, they poop more than you can believe, so having a change of clothes is necessary for the frequent or occasional blowouts. Josie lived in zippered footie PJs the first 3 months of her life, so that was always my go to backup outfit. Having layers also helps for taking quick trips outside.
Breastfeeding Items: Normally, I was feeding Josie and then changing her or changing her in the middle of her feeding to wake her up. Having materials that are needed to feed in the same spot is wonderfully helpful. Typical items I used with Josie that I will use with the new baby (if breastfeeding works out) are a towel since I was an over-producer and leaked, haakaa for catching extra milk, and nipple butter.
These 8 plus items really helped with Josie, and I am hoping they help with the next babe! I am sure there will be new or different items that I will add or remove, but for now this is what I am sticking with. I hope that anyone who is currently prepping or hoping to prep for a little one finds one of these suggestions helpful.
